Gervais is a senior expert on forestry and climate change issues in the Congo Basin with over 20 years of professional experience and work in projects funded by donors, public administration and local and international NGOs for the conservation and sustainable management of natural resources (WWF, WCS).

He is currently the Deputy Executive Secretarty of COMIFAC, leading and supervising technical and political consultations at the central Africa sub-region level, with a focus on the implementation of the Rio Conventions (Biodiversity, Climate, Desertification) and policy harmonization of international negotiations within the framework of these conventions and other international processes.

Focal point at the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) of the Republic of Congo, he is also a member of the UNFCCC Expert Advisory Group, which he actively chaired in 2019.

Through the African Group of Negotiators and the Rainforest Coalition (CFRN) he took part in the negotiations for the forest sector within the framework of Paris Agreement. He has proven experience in REDD+, with an active role in the preparation for the REDD+ process of the Congo, participated in several Policy Boards of the UN REDD Program and was focal point in the REDD+ Interim Partnership for Congo.
